Qualify now, pay later ... with a Learning Loan If you’re 19 or older, you can apply for a loan to help with the costs of a HCUK Training programme.
If you’re 19 or over when your course starts and have lived in the UK for at least 3 years, you could be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan. This government-backed scheme pays your course fees so you can begin learning straight away.
If you are under the age of 19 you are entitled to free tuition and you will not have any exam fees.
For most people between the age of 19 and 23 your tuition and exam fees will also be free - depending on your previous qualifications and financial circumstances.
What courses are the loans available for?
Loans can be used to pay for academic, vocational, technical and professional qualifications at Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. Take a look at our approved programmes:

No repayments until you’re earning over £21,000pa
There’s no credit check and your income isn’t taken into account when you apply for the loan. You start to repay in April of the year after your loan is taken out, but you only start repaying the loan when you earn more than £21,000 a year. So, if you are not earning £21,000 a year at that point, the repayments are put on hold and you pay nothing back until you are earning that amount or more.
You can pay for any of our courses with an Advanced Learner Loan (so long as you’re 19 or over - there’s no upper age limit) and the repayments, when they start, will be 9% of your income over £21,000.
Earnings each year before tax (£ thousands)
How much are the loans for?
For all eligible courses, the loan will be for up to 100% of the cost of your training, including course and material fees. The minimum value of loan you can apply for is £300.
Do I need to apply for a loan for each year I am studying?
No – it is ‘one course, one loan’. You will apply for a single loan to cover the whole length of your course so you don’t need to reapply each year.
How do I apply?
You will need to have an interview with a member of HCUK Training staff for the course to which you are applying. At that point, you will be given details of how to apply online via Student Finance England. Contact the team on 0300 330 20 10 for more information and support.
