The Level 2 Framework in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) is ideal for occupations in the automotive industry covering knowledge and competencies in routine vehicle maintenance, removal and replacement of vehicle unit’s diagnosis and rectification of vehicle faults. You will also cover working safely on hybrid vehicles valeting cars or running your own car valeting business fitting and replacing vehicle tyres maintenance and installation of alarms, digital instruments and satellite navigation systems. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 12 months on program.
Vehicle Accident Repair Body Competences is available as a Level 2 Framework; you are working in the automotive industry and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 24 months on program.
Vehicle Body and Paint Operations (Body Repair) is available as a Level 3 Framework; this level 3 qualification covers technical needs for today's motor vehicle repair industry including preparation and application procedures and the diagnosis and rectifying of paint faults. It provides essential knowledge for vehicle body and paint operators working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist body and paint businesses. The Level 3 Framework has a duration of 24 months on program.
Vehicle Fitting (Fast Fitting) is available as a Level 2 Framework; the technician should be working in the fast fit sector of the industry and ideally have at least six months experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to repair vehicles using fast fit activities such as the repair / replacement of tyres, batteries and rotating electrical components. The Level 4 Framework has a duration of 24 months on program.
Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle) is available as a Level 3 Standard; a motor vehicle technician services and repairs light vehicles such as cars and vans and work either in dealership that focus on a particular manufacturer, or for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles. They work on all the systems found within the vehicle. The nature of the work ranges from replacing simple parts through to solving complex faults with the use of diagnostic methods and equipment. The day-to-day tasks faced by the technician are constantly changing, driven by the introduction of ever more complex technologies and diagnostic techniques. Today’s apprentice has to demonstrate expertise in the technical side of their role. They must have strong problem-solving skills and a good grasp of the theoretical and practical aspects of a vehicle’s systems.
They must be able to work independently but also operate as an effective team member, understand how their work shop and the dealership/garage functions from a commercial perspective, have good customer handling skills and identify ways in which they can work more efficiently. The growing complexity of today’s vehicles, and the pressure to deliver a high-quality customer experience, requires the retail automotive sector to attract and train high caliber individuals and this is reflected in the elements of the Standard described below. The Level 3 Standard has a duration of 36 months on program.
Vehicle Maintenance/Repair (Motorcycle) is available as a Level 2 Framework; Level 2 will suit you if you have already developed a good foundation of skills and knowledge required to become a vehicle service technician and are ready to move to the next level. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 12 months on program.
Vehicle Maintenance/Repair (Heavy) is available as a Level 2 Framework; Level 2 will suit you if you are working in the automotive industry and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 12 months on program.
Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Repair is available as a Level 2 Framework; Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following: Health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment, Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices, How to locate and correct simple electrical faults, including inspecting vehicles and removing /replacing electrical units and components
Optional units include: Auxiliary locks and Security devices and overhauling electrical units. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 12 months on program.
