This apprenticeship is available as a Level 2 Framework; Level 2 will suit you if you're just starting out in hairdressing or have some knowledge and basic skills in the industry - probably from a role where you work under supervision. You might be a young learner (14-16) or an adult.

To achieve one of the shorter Level 2 Awards in Hair Services, you complete any of a choice of nine awards individually, each comprising a single core unit. Awards include: Cutting women's hair, Coloring and lightening hair, Cutting men's hair and Hairdressing reception duties. The Level 2 Framework has a duration of 12 months on program.

This apprenticeship is available as a Level 2 Standard; there are two distinctly different job roles within this occupational profile: Hairdresser and Barber. Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and color and lighten hair for ladies and men. Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. Hairdressers and barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviors, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills. No entry requirements. The Level 2 Standard has a duration of 12 months on program.

This apprenticeship is available as a Level 3 Framework; Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in hairdressing or barbering for some time and want to develop your skills in a specialised area. You might want a broad qualification or to learn a particular technique. To achieve the shorter Level 3 Awards in Hair Services, you complete one of a choice of twelve awards individually, including: Bridal hair, Creative hairdressing design skills, and Hair extensions and Relax African type hair. The Level 3 Framework has a duration of 24 months on program.
